PBT is a type of semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester, milky white, translucent or opaque. It has excellent high heat resistance, toughness, fatigue resistance, self-lubricating and low friction coefficient. It is not resistant to strong acid and alkali, but resistant to organic solvents. It is flammable and can be decomposed at high temperature. PBT, polybutylene terephthalate, also known as polytetramethylene terephthalate, which is referred to as PBT, PBTP or PTMT.
PBT resin is obtained by the polycondensation of 1.4-pbt butylene glycol (1.4-Butylene glycol) and terephthalic acid (PTA) or terephthalic acid ester (DMT). It is made into thermoplastic polyester resin through a mixing process.

PBT resin is obtained by the polycondensation of 1.4-pbt butylene glycol (1.4-Butylene glycol) and terephthalic acid (PTA) or terephthalic acid ester (DMT). It is made into thermoplastic polyester resin through a mixing process.
Step1: Pour PBT resin into crystal tank, crystallize it at 150 degrees for 2 hours, until the PBT resin turns into white color.
Step 2: The crystallized PBT will be pumped into a drying tank, and kept dry at 130-140 degrees for 3 hours, to ensure that there is no moisture in the PBT resin.
Step 3:Then the fully dried PBT raw material is pumped into the extruder. The temperature of the extruder should be adjusted to a suitable range, to ensure the PBT raw material can be extruded smoothly, in the sleeve of the extruder. The normal feeding temperature is 190 °C. The temperature of the middle section of the extruder is about 240 degrees. And the temperature of the outlet is about 220 degrees. Different extruder require different temperature control.
Step 4: The fully melted PBT is pushed by the screw, through the tube, and into the mold. The temperature of the tube and mold is about 220 degrees. The thickness of the PBT sheets is set by the PLA program of the machine. The program adjust the opening size of the die lip of the mold, to make the wanted thickness.
Step 5:The PBT semi-finished film flowing out from the mold, is pressed and fixed into a sheet by the roller, and then cooled and shaped. After total cooling, pack the PBT sheet and film.

PBT sheet has good chemical resistance. It does not react with alcohols, ethers, high molecular weight vinegars, aliphatic hydrocarbons, acids and salts in aqueous solutions. It can withstand carbon tetrachloride, but swells strongly in dichloroethane. It is resistant to aromatic hydrocarbons, acetic acid, vinyl acetate. It also swells somewhat and decomposes in concentrated and nitric acids. PBT film can be processed by turning, bonding, ultrasonic welding, printing, coating, hot melt adhesive spraying. With such features, PBT can be very widely used.
PBT sheet has good chemical resistance, heat resistance, and electrical property. It is easy for second processing. The cost of processing is quite low. This make PBT sheet a good insulating material.
In conditions with high relative humidity, the plasticity is easily reduced, and electrical nodes are prone to corrosion. Modified PBT is often used. At 80 degrees and 90% relative humidity, PBT can still remain normal condition. And its physical and chemical condition stays good. Solder resistance is very beneficial for processing insert products.
PBT sheets are heat resistant, easy for printing, spaying and coating. SUNYO PBT sheets are available with gloss, super matte, light sanded or rough sanded surface.
The light sanded and rough sanded surface is easy to glue with wooded board. And the surface is very wear-resistant. We have customers used the PBT sheets for skateboard surface, and test the wear-resistance many times. The wear resistance of PBT sheet is much stronger than that of PC, PET, ABS sheet.
When PBT sticks to the skateboard, it will not be degummed or deformed. And the friction coefficient of the PBT sheet surface and the ground contact is just in line with the standards of professional skaters.
